ROCHINDA PICKENS: Affectionately Known as the “Crown Checker” Inspires Women Globally
Tell about how the Kept Woman of God Ministry has globally empowered women.
Where do I even begin? Reflecting on the journey of Kept Woman of GOD Ministry, I am constantly in awe of how GOD took what was my darkest, most broken moment and transformed it into a global movement of light, empowerment, and restoration for women. This ministry was born out of tragedy, grief, and, most importantly, a heartfelt surrender to GOD.
I’ll never forget December 22nd, 2007—at 9:35 a.m., my life changed forever. My late husband and I were in a devastating car accident on black ice, flipping our car over the highway. He didn’t survive. But I did—without a scratch. That day, GOD’s protection was over me in a way I didn’t fully understand at the time. I had always put my trust in my husband, who had been my protector and rock for over 20 years. But after that tragedy, it became clear that my trust needed to be fully rooted in GOD.
I was left to raise our three children on my own—13, 15, and 23 at the time—after being a stay-at-home mom for 16 years. I knew how to care for my family, but I didn’t know how to care for me as Rochinda. I struggled with insecurities, feeling lost without the roles that had once defined me. But in that season of grief, counseling, and complete silence, GOD began doing something incredible. My surrender to Him unlocked a transformation that, to this day, I’m still amazed by.
I began praying for direction, and GOD showed me that He had plans beyond my pain. By 2015, I was hosting Vision Board parties, leading Bible studies, and preparing to launch the Kept Woman of GOD Conference in 2016. That year, I shared my testimony publicly, and it became clear—this was more than just my story. It was the story of women everywhere who needed to know they could be healed, protected, and KEPT by GOD.
This ministry provides women with the hope to live life boldly in Christ. By connecting women worldwide, KWOG equips them with the inner brilliance that resides within each individual. It offers a platform for women to share their stories without feeling excluded. Ultimately, the ministry empowers women by instilling the belief that their inner strength lies within themselves, which they must acknowledge.
We invite women to come each year to learn from other women on practical things like health, wellness, overcoming challenges, dealing with finances, and life. The things that women go through—sometimes alone. I like to provide women with the resources that helped me when I needed them. These are resources that others can tap into to experience their own breakthroughs, build confidence, and connect within a thriving community of women supporting women.
What sets the Kept Woman of GOD Ministry apart is how we meet women right where they are. I’ve witnessed women go from being too afraid to pray out loud to leading prayer calls and launching their own businesses and ministries. One of our attendees, Marla, lives with MS, and she shared that the ministry has been a beacon of hope for her as she now writes her first book. GOD’s work through this ministry has truly touched lives, and I am humbled by every testimony.
In 2018, New York Times bestselling author Kimberla Lawson Roby keynoted our conference, and I remember her words: ‘The love here is something I’ve rarely seen.’ She has since returned not just as a speaker, but as a guest who wanted to sit in the room among the women—because that’s the environment we create. Every woman is treated as the Queen she is.

Share your challenges that have become the catalyst to many triumphs.
A major obstacle for me was finding my voice and being confident enough to speak up in public settings. I felt safe behind the scenes, hiding my fears that someone might uncover my flaws or view me as less capable. Despite having a creative mind and exceptional talents, I allowed the fact that I didn’t have a college degree to make me feel like I wasn’t enough. I wrestled with self-doubt and the need for validation from others, and that internal struggle became a driving force behind the work I do today. It’s the reason I encourage and empower other women to create their own workshops, retreats, and conferences—to help them break free from the same limitations I once placed on myself.
Another challenge for me was learning to ask for help. I once believed that needing support was a sign of weakness, but that mindset kept me from growing. Today, I have an incredible team working alongside me, helping to bring my vision to life. And let me tell you, letting go of the idea that I had to do everything on my own was one of the best decisions I ever made.
Being a single mom at 19 and becoming a widow at 44 were two of the most defining challenges of my life. Those seasons weren’t just obstacles—they were catalysts for everything I do now. As a young mom, I learned the importance of resilience and resourcefulness, and as a widow raising three children, I experienced firsthand what it means to rebuild your life from the ground up. These experiences have given me the wisdom and compassion to speak into the lives of young girls, single moms, and widows. I don’t just talk from theory—I speak from lived experiences that have shaped me into the woman I am today.
What I’ve realized is that people open up more when they see you’ve faced your own trials and tribulations. My clients relate to me because I am them. I’ve been where they are, and my journey allows them to see that the challenges they face are not roadblocks but stepping stones to something greater. I don’t just speak about possibilities—I embody them, and through that, I help other women find their path to triumph.”

As a 6X best-selling author and notable speaker, I bring real-life experiences, faith, and practical wisdom to every stage I grace. My recent release, Royal Reverence: Embracing Your Noble Self by Cultivating Self-Respect, has been a game-changer for my speaking engagements, where I dive into topics centered on self-respect, self-care, and establishing what I call a ‘Queendom Community.’ This concept focuses on building supportive environments where women are uplifted, held accountable, and encouraged to walk in their divine purpose with confidence.
A topic that I champion regularly on social media and in my engagements is “Girl, Check Your Crown.” This is very dear to my heart because as women, we need authentic accountability and ongoing support to maintain our self-worth and purpose. If a young Rochinda had access to positive insights and role models within a supportive community, I know my journey would have looked different. That’s why I’m so passionate about ensuring no woman feels like she’s navigating life’s challenges alone.
2025 is a pivotal season of realignment and refocus, especially as we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Kept Woman of GOD Ministry. As part of this milestone, I’m hosting the Chosen Luxury Experience from August 20th to 24th in Martha’s Vineyard, where 50 incredible women will come together for deep connection, personal growth, and luxury reflection. Following that, I’ll be joining and hosting Conversations with Momma Rhodes & Chinda in Houston, Texas, on September 20th. Additionally, I’m excited to be on tour in key states like Chicago, Dallas, and Florida to share my message. We’ll also be hosting Chinda and Friends’ Annual Tea Party in October—a powerful time for community and celebration.

Everything I do reflects my life journey, and that’s what makes it authentic. Women relate to me because I don’t just speak about possibilities—I’ve lived them. From navigating single motherhood and loss to becoming a 6X best-selling author and respected speaker, my life is proof that triumphs are born from trials. And I’m here to help other women claim their victories too.”
Tell us about the Sister’s Circle Greater Kansas City and Life Changers Church and why you are so proud of your community.
The Sisters’ Circle is a beautiful example of what happens when we come together to make a difference. By pooling resources and collective wisdom, we create lasting impact in African American communities across Greater Kansas City. What I love most is that anyone with a heart to serve can join. I used to think philanthropy was for the wealthy, but I’ve learned that true giving starts with a heart to help—and this organization has allowed me to give consistently and meaningfully.
At Life Changers Church, under the leadership of Pastor Cleotis and Lady Pamela Cobbins, I’ve found a home where service and compassion are at the core. It’s a small congregation with a big heart, and witnessing the generosity of others fills me with joy. I am so proud to be part of a community where growth, inclusion, and love are not just values but actions we live by.
Monumental Milestone: 10th Anniversary. Tell us about your plans for the TransformHER Conference on April 11-12, 2025 to empower women to embrace transformation!
I am thrilled to announce this significant milestone. Our theme for the year is TransformHer, which embodies our decade-long journey of transformation. We have planned a two-day experience for ladies, featuring a panel discussion with five influential women who will engage in candid conversations about what TransformHer means to them in their own creative spaces. Additionally, we are honored to have renowned gospel artist, speaker, and author Lynda Randal join us on Saturday as Keynote. Notably, Lynda and I were neighbors when I was 23 years old, and our occasional conversations eventually led to a life-changing encounter. She prayed the Salvation prayer with me, and I confessed my faith, inviting God into my life. This year’s conference is a testament to how God has transformed our life. I believe that over our time on earth we will encounter people who help shape and transform who we are.
